February 13th Update - Dad is Home!!!!!
Hello Everyone,
We have wonderful news—Dad is home! We are so incredibly thankful to God for His grace and for answering our prayers.
Last week, the doctors were a bit concerned because Dad's blood was clotting too quickly, and he was developing hard spots in his veins. After some bloodwork, they determined this was a side effect of the antibiotic he had been receiving every four hours. Thankfully, they were able to switch him to a different antibiotic, which is now administered every eight hours.
The student nurses who cared for Dad last week made him feel so loved. They also learned a lot from his diagnosis, and he was told he was both their favourite patient and one of their sickest. Over the past two weeks, Mom and Dad have truly felt the love and kindness of the nurses and staff at Joseph Brant Hospital. More than that, they have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, encouragement, and prayers from all of you. Your prayers have lifted them up, and they have felt Jesus walking with them through this journey. In return, they have been able to share His love with others on Dad's floor—whether through conversations in the elevator or interactions with staff in the hallways. What a blessing it has been to see God at work in the midst of this trial!
On Monday, the doctors shared some good news: Dad’s blood cultures had been clear for several days. This meant they could move forward with placing a PICC line, which allowed him to be discharged and return home! They also performed a test on his heart, which he passed with flying colors. While they did detect a small infection, the doctors are hopeful that the antibiotics will clear it up over time.
Now that Dad is home, he will continue his antibiotic treatment for eight weeks. After that, he will have an MRI to assess his healing, and we will take the next steps from there.
In the meantime, we humbly ask that you continue to keep our family in your prayers. Dad still has a long road to full recovery, and we trust in God’s strength to sustain him through it all. We are so grateful for each and every one of you—your love, support, and faithful prayers mean more than words can express.
With heartfelt gratitude,
The Hordyk Girls
